About Us

The West Virginia Partnership for Health Innovation (WVPHI) is a coordinating group for health care insurers, providers, consumers and community-based organizations in our state. Our goal is to create a health care system where we all share a commitment to better quality care, lower health care costs and better population health.

West Virginia has a large and engaged community of health care professionals, hospitals and health organizations, and governmental and academic organizations with health responsibilities. Leaders from many of these organizations have joined together in WVPHI to facilitate a change in the health status of our state.

We believe that by developing targeted initiatives that build on the strengths of all these groups, our state can create a national model for successful, effective health innovation. We are committed to bring disparate groups together for conversation, collaboration, and action.

Vision Statement
The WVPHI is a catalyst and collaborator for advancing better health and health care in the state.

Mission Statement
The mission of WVPHI is to assist West Virginia’s health care stakeholders in moving toward a value- based health care system. WVPHI achieves its mission by:

  • Collaborating to bring the best ideas forward for value-based health care;
  • Identifying and disseminating best practices regarding social determinants of health, health equity and health care consumer engagement;
  • Serving as a bridge builder from the current to the changing health care system; and
  • Building consensus among siloed entities.

History
WVPHI grew out of West Virginia’s State Innovation Models (SIM) Initiative, sponsored by CMS. The SIM initiative partnered with states to advance multi-payer health care payment and delivery system reform models. Each state-led model aims to achieve better quality of care, lower costs, and improved health for their respective population. The goal of the West Virginia plan was to better achieve the “triple aim”: improve population health and the care experience while controlling costs. We are an independent 501(c) 3 organization led by a volunteer board of directors drawn from active and retired health leaders at a variety of institutions across the state. The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation is providing startup support.
